Poor Man's Vacuum Sealer
 

I'm not super active on the boards, but I enjoy reading them and I hope this counts as a small contribution. For those of you who would like to try vacuum sealing without actually buying a "FoodSaver", I just published an instructable on how to build your own vacuum sealer for $30. I've been playing with it all weekend and it works great. My brother and sister made one too and they love it.

I called it "the Alvin" after my dad. He always taught me to do more with less, and set aside the extra for another day. I hope you like it, I hope it does someone some good, and I hope the name sticks :wink:

That's cool but...I bought my Vacuum sealer at Big Lots two years ago for $40 and it came with the Jar attachment. Shop around, never pay retail!

Thnak you to everyone for the kind words. I've been looking for a FoodSaver at a decent price for about a year and a half and haven't found one yet for under about $75. At least I can start putting up the bulk dry goods I've been accumulating. And I can bleed my brakes :emotions16:
